Indicted on a murder charge, defendant and two others were all represerited by the Public Defender. Following a plea discussion among the Assistant State’s Attorney, defense counsel, and the trial judge, defendant pleaded guilty, the plea was accepted, and defendant was sentenced to a term of 14 to 20 years.

Under the Illinois Post-Conviction Hearing Act (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1971, ch. 38, par. 122 — 1 et seq.), defendant filed a pro se petition raising issues concerning the trial judge’s participation in the plea negotiations and deprivation of effective assistance of counsel. The State moved to…
