The questions before us are: (1) Was the admission of the defendant’s opinion as to the distance within which he could stop his car reversible error ? and (2) “On the basis of the trial record, should the court have denied the defendant’s motion for reduction of the verdict to $10,052 ?”

The record would support the following findings of fact by the jury:

The plaintiff and the defendant were riding on a winter night in the defendant’s car, which he was driving, when they were struck by a train which was traveling from Boston to White River on the Mill Street crossing in Lebanon, New Hampshire.…
