The defendant appeals his conviction in Superior Court (Goode, J.) of arson, RSA 634:1, I and II. He challenges his conviction on a number of grounds, including the argument that he was denied due process and a fair trial when the trial judge failed, on his own initiative, to hold an evidentiary hearing during the trial on the defendant’s competency. We reverse and remand.
