Defendant Rico Adams, defendant Fred Johnson and Albert Winfrey were charged in an indictment with burglary, armed robbery and armed violence. Winfrey’s motion for severance was granted and defendants Adams and Johnson were tried jointly.

Prior to trial, defendant Adams filed a motion for discharge, alleging that pursuant to section 103 — 5(a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1977, ch. 38, par. 103 — 5(a)) his right to a speedy trial was violated because he was not brought to trial within 120 days from the day he was taken into custody.
