On August 13, 1981, the appellant, Willie Lee Carthon, alias Willie Lee Pryor, was indicted by the Grand Jury of Covington County for assault in the first degree in violation of Section13A-6-20 (a)(1) of the Code Of Alabama. On September 16, 1981 counsel was duly appointed by the court to represent the appellant. On October 19, 1981 the appellant was duly arraigned, and entered a plea of not guilty. On November 5, 1981 demurrers were filed to the indictment. On November 17, 1981, after a jury trial, the jury found the appellant guilty as charged, and he was duly sentenced to be imprisoned in…
