The plaintiff is a corporation organized under the laws of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, engaged in the business of buying and selling hills of exchange, issuing letters of credit and loaning money; and it maintains a branch office in the city of New York, and had a deposit account with the defendant. On the 10th of November, 1909, one Mackenzie, its agent in charge of the New York branch, drew its check on the defendant for $15,000, payable to the order of the National Protective Association, a secret fraternal mutual benefit association incorporated under the…
