Howard and Jean Bernstein were divorced in 1975. At that time, they entered into a separation agreement, which was made the judgment of the trial court, requiring Bernstein to pay his former wife $300 per month alimony and $800 per month child support for his two children, in addition to tuition, medical expenses and insurance totaling nearly $18,000 per year. He now seeks to modify that decree on the basis that his financial status has deteriorated since then.
