Following a jury trial in the circuit court of Cook County, the defendant, Sheldon Baines, was convicted of attempted first degree murder and armed robbery, receiving consecutive prison terms of 25 years and 10 years for those respective offenses. On appeal, the defendant seeks reversal of his convictions and remand for a new trial on two grounds: first, he claims that he was denied the effective assistance of counsel at trial, and, second, he asserts that the trial court erroneously allowed improper hearsay testimony identifying…
