We granted the Commonwealth’s application for further appellate review to determine whether the defendant, who entered a guilty plea to being an accessory before the fact to murder in the second degree (among other charges), was properly granted a new trial. The charges were based on the defendant’s involvement in a gang-related shooting that occurred in Springfield on February 28, 1995, in which one person was killed and three others wounded.
