In the act incorporating “The Hew York and Liverpool United States Mail Steamship Company,” passed April'11, 1859, section 10, is the following provision: “The stockholders of the said company shall be jointly and severally individually liable for all the debts that may be due and owing to all their laborers and operatives for services performed for said corporation.” From the 9th of April to the 10th of October, 1857, the plaintiff, as consulting engineer, rendered services at different times upon some twenty different days, for said company, of the value of $500, as…
