Adams, Wright & Gossett contracted in writing with plaintiff to build for the latter according to certain specifications a, dwelling house, to furnish material therefor, to finish the work and deliver the building on or before the first of September, 1897, for which they were to be paid |3,450.20 in installments as the work progressed on certificates of the architect, fifteen per cent, thereof to be reserved until the completion and delivery of the building free from liens chargeable to the1, contractors.
