delivered the opinion of the court:

Stanley Sparks, defendant, was found guilty, after a bench trial, of the crime of attempted theft in violation oí Section 8 — 4 and Section 16— 1(a) of the Criminal Code (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1971, ch. 38, pars. 8 — 4 and 16 — 1), and was sentenced to a term of six months in the House of Correction.
