Plaintiff, Alice Cook, as administratrix for the estate of Glover Cook, filed suit on August 1, 1978, against defendants, the City of Detroit and Detroit Police Officers James Duff, Gloria Gaines, and Alvin Samuel. Prior to the selection of the jury, the trial court granted summary judgment in favor of the City of Detroit. James Duff was voluntarily dismissed from the suit on motion of plaintiff. The jury reached a verdict of no cause of action in favor of the remaining defendants, Gloria Gaines and Alvin Samuel. On August 14, 1981, the trial court denied plaintiff’s motion for a new trial.…
