This convoluted litigation began with a suit in the Circuit Court of Mobile County, Alabama, for a declaratory judgment as to the validity, and if valid the meaning, of a contract referred to by the parties and hereinafter as the Sterling Agreement. The plaintiffs were Bart B. Chamberlain, Jr., a citizen of Alabama, and G. H. Jett, a citizen of Louisiana.
