This action was instituted by the appellee against the appellant on the following instrument:
“Fort Smith, Ark., March 20, 1923.
“Crow Oil & Gas Company, Fort 'Smith, Arkansas.
“Gentlemen: The Fort Smith -Drilling Company is indebted to Mrs. D. S. Drain in the sum of $3,500, evideuced by three notes, dated February 23, 1922, the first for $1,000, due in six months, the second for- $1,000, due in twelve months, and the third for $1,500, due in eighteen months, all bearing interest from date at the rate of eight per cent, per annum, and you are' hereby authorized and directed to pay to Cravens &…
