Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI) and its workers’ compensation insurance carrier appeal an award by the Industrial Commission for temporary total disability and medical benefits to claimant Judy D. Wood. Wood, a graduate student and graduate research assistant (GRA) at VPI, was seriously injured on June 6, 1985, when struck by a hit and run automobile while in Las Vegas to attend a professional conference.
