This is an action, brought by an employee of the defendant corporation, to recover the sum of $1,381.65 with interest thereon from the commencement of said action on the 22d day of October, 1901.

It is alleged by the plaintiff that on or about the 11th day of July, 1899, he was employed by the defendant corporation as a carpenter, and was duly and regularly appointed by the defendant corporation as classified in schedule Gr of the rules and regulations of the civil service commission of the city of Few York.
