November 7, 1944, at a special school election, the electors of School District No. 186 of Sangamon county voted in favor of propositions to improve an existing school site of the district, in the city of Springfield, commonly known as the “Lanphier School Site,” by the construction of an athletic field thereon, including a stadium, and, also, to issue bonds in the amount of $360,000 for the purpose of paying the cost of the improvement.
