Following a jury trial, defendant was found guilty of aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1975, ch. 38, par. 12 — 4) and was sentenced to a period of four years imprisonment. On appeal, defendant raises the following issues: (1) the element of “great bodily harm” contained in the Illinois aggravated battery statute and in count I of the indictment violates his constitutional rights to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation against him and to due process of law (U.S. Const., amends.
