On December 19, 1893, a special election was held in the city of Chicago, for the election of a mayor to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Carter H. Harrison. The candidates for said office at the election were John P. Hopkins, George B. Swift, Michael Britzius and Ebenezer Wakeley. The canvassing board canvassed the returns of the election, and declared that said returns gave for the office of mayor 112,959 votes to Hopkins, 111,669 votes to Swift, 2064 votes to Britzius, and 535 votes to Wakeley.
