MURDOCK, Justice.
Randell L. Dickson (“the husband”) petitioned this Court for a writ of certiorari after the Court of Civil Appeals affirmed, without an opinion, a divorce judgment that, among other things, awarded Emily Vandiver Dickson (“the wife”) alimony in gross in an amount substantially exceeding the value of the husband’s present estate. Dickson v. Dickson (No. 2050945, May 25, 2007), 12 So.3d 169 (Ala.Civ.App.2007) (table).
