Consumer Protection Division, No. 33, September Term, 2019 (1) Individuals who had assigned structured settlement benefits filed a class action against the assignees of those benefits seeking civil damages on the ground that the assignments were the product of fraud on the part of the assignees. (Linton action). Prior to the filing of that action, the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office (CPD) had sued the assignees for violations of the Consumer Protection Act seeking civil penalties, injunctive relief, and disgorgement/restitution.
