J. R. White and Ed. H. Smith, compose the law firm of White & Smith. In connection with their profession' they make abstracts of titles and procure loans on farm property. T. F. Harston is a large land owner in Barren county and was heavily involved. In the early spring of 1912, he applied to White & Smith to procure him a loan of $25,000.00 on his farm for a period of five years, and agreed, to pay them a fee of $2,500.00 if they were successful.
