This case illustrates the necessity of more skill and greater care in framing the ■ rules by which the affairs of mutual benefit societies are to be governed. When a beneficiary sues upon a certificate, he or she is entitled to the application of principles of law, unless such application is prevented by the rules, which are adverse to the beneficial results contemplated in the formation of such societies, and even to their continued existence.

The appellee is the widow of H. H. Loomis. He made an application for membership in the appellant association as follows:
