This is a petition for an assessment of damages under G. L. c. 79, § 14, following the talcing by eminent domain of the plaintiff’s land on June 19, 1968. The property in question consisted of two parcels of vacant land located in New Bedford, one containing approxi*153mately eleven acres1 and the other containing approximately 9,000 square feet. A jury returned a verdict for the plaintiff in the amount of $40,000 on May 3,1973.
