On June 17, 1918, plaintiff, the Magnolia Petroleum Co., filed a claim for a refund of income taxes paid for the year 1916 in the sum of $30,217.11. On September 20, 1920, it filed a supplemental claim for the refund of taxes for the same year in the sum of $114,565.44 “ or such greater amount as may be refundable.” On June 12, 1920, plaintiff filed claim for the refund of $1,966,600.87 paid on account of its income tax for the year 1917, and on September 20, 1920, it filed a supplemental refund claim on account of the same year for the sum of $1,005,519.42, “ or such greater *189amount as may be…
