On November 15, 1984, following a non-jury trial before Judge Daly in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, judgment against the United States in the amount of $5 million, “plus interest at the statutory rate from the date of judgment”, was awarded to Charles Cardillo, individually and as executor of the estate of Sandra L. Cardillo, deceased. The judgment was based on a finding that Mrs. Cardillo’s injuries and death were caused by the administration of swine flu vaccine.
