The issue presented in this original mandamus proceeding is whether the attorney-client privilege protects communications between a trustee and his or her attorney relating to trust administration from discovery by a trust beneficiary. We hold that, notwithstanding the trustee’s fiduciary duty to the beneficiary, only the trustee, not the trust beneficiary, is the client of the trustee’s attorney. The beneficiary therefore may not discover communications between the trustee and attorney otherwise protected under Texas Rule of Civil Evidence 503. Because the trial court ruled otherwise, we…
