In June, 1940, Joseph J. Boyd, who owned a large tract of land in the 9th ward of the Parish of East Baton Rouge, located on the continuation of Government Street and running back to Florida Street, laid the same out as a subdivision to be known as North Goodwood. He divided the area into blocks which were subdivided into lots to be sold to persons who would construct residences on them.
