Following a bench trial on August 26, 1991, the defendant, Dion Terry Miller, was convicted of obstructing justice (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1991, ch. 38, par. 31 — 4(a) (now 720 ILCS 5/31 — 4(a) (West 1992))), aggravated assault (Ill. Rev.
