HUNTER, Justice.

The defendant, Lonnal Davenport, was convicted by a jury of attempted murder, a Class A felony, Ind.Code §§ 385-41-5-1, 85-42-1-1(1) (Burns 1979 Repl.) and possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony, Ind.Code § 35-48-4-6 (Burns 1984 Supp.). He was sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction for concurrent terms of fifty and five years. In this direct appeal, he raises the following four issues:
