Prentice Baker and Verlaine Laguerre were convicted of malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a fel- ony for the shooting death of Matthew Hardeman. The evidence at trial showed that on the day of the shooting, Hardeman and La- guerre got into a fistfight in front of the home of Andrew “Cali” Ellis, a mutual friend and Hardeman’s neighbor.
