Appeal from an order of the Supreme Court (J. Sise, J.), entered October 8, 2013 in Montgomery County, which denied defendants’ motion for summary judgment dismissing the complaint.
Plaintiff was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease, a condition that affects the nerve cells embedded in the wall of the rectum and which can cause severe constipation. After two unsuccessful medical procedures, defendant underwent an open *1136proctosigmoidectomy — the goal of which was to remove the diseased portion of plaintiffs rectum — performed by a physician at defendants’ medical facility.
