In this proceeding for support of an alleged wife decision turns on the scope and effect of Williams v. North Carolina (317 U. S. 287).

The parties intermarried, in New York city, on January 1, 1939. Their union has been childless, and ended with respondent’s disappearance on April 10,1940. Petition for support was filed on June 6, 1940, but because of respondent’s absence from this State jurisdiction over him was not acquired until November 7, 1942.
