Johnathan Nickerson was indicted by a grand jury for the offense of capital murder. See Tex. . Penal Code Ann. § 19.03(a)(2) (West 2014). A jury found Nickerson guilty, and the trial court assessed punishment at life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
