The merits of this case were resolved over 200 reporter volumes ago, see Riddell v. National Democratic Party, 508 F.2d 770 (5th Cir.1975) (Riddell I), and we are left today with the matter of attorneys’ fees. Following our remand in Riddell v. National Democratic Party, 624 F.2d 539 (5th Cir. 1980) (Riddell II), the district court awarded fees and costs pursuant to 42 U.S.C. § 1988 to the prevailing Loyalists and made the losing parties, the Regulars and the state officials, jointly and severally liable for this amount. 545 F.Supp. 252 (S.D.Miss. 1982).…
