In these consolidated appeals, defendant, Emily Portellos, appeals as of right her convictions, following a jury trial, of second-degree murder1 and first-degree child abuse.2 The trial court sentenced Portellos to serve 86 to 180 months’ imprisonment for her child abuse conviction and 10 to 20 years’ imprisonment for her second-degree-murder conviction. The trial court departed downward from the sentencing guidelines’ recommended minimum sentence range for the second-degree-murder conviction.
