On January 19, 1996, the defendant was indicted for three counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault (720 ILCS 5/12 — 14(b) (i) (West 1998)). The offenses that led to his conviction occurred between December 26, 1995, and January 10, 1996. The defendant was reindicted on December 3, 1996, for predatory criminal sexual assault (720 ILCS 5/12 — 14.1(a)(1) (West 1998)). On March 20, 1997, the defendant pleaded guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, and he was subsequently sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment on June 20, 1997.
