The scene of this action is laid on the Salmon river, in the town of Orwell, Oswego county, N. Y. The river is especially adapted for the development of hydro-electric power. It rises in the hilly country of northern New York, and flows in a generally westerly direction, emptying into Lake Ontario near the village of Pulaski. The land through which the stream runs is rough and broken, and the soil is stony and unproductive. The hillsides are largely covered with timber.
