Plaintiff, Alice Gibson, brought this suit against J. C. Penney Company, Inc., and its insurer, Travelers Insurance Company, to recover damages for personal injuries and medical expenses sustained when she slipped and fell while descending the stairway leading from the ground floor to the basement floor of the J. C. Penney Company downtown store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on March 19, 1960, at approximately 11:00 A.M.
