PARRISH, Judge.
Harold D. Bethel (defendant) was convicted of driving while intoxicated, § 577.0101, following a jury trial at which he appeared pro se. He was charged as and found to be a prior offender. See § 577.023.2, RSMo Supp. 1993. Defendant was sentenced to confinement in the county jail for a term of 30 days. He appeals contending the trial court erred in allowing him to proceed to trial without counsel. This court reverses defendant’s conviction and sentence and remands the case for a new trial.
