The defendant stands convicted of assault in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a child for having intentionally immersed her two-year-old daughter in a tub of scalding *216water, as a result of which the child suffered serious burns of her left hand, legs and buttocks, eight of her toes had to be amputated and she was required to undergo numerous painful skin graft operations.
