Order unanimously modified on the law and as modified affirmed without costs in accordance with the following Memorandum: Respondent appeals from an order denying her objections to the Hearing Examiner’s order, which granted the petition seeking a downward modification of maintenance. “As a general rule, the amount and duration of maintenance are matters committed to the sound discretion of the trial court * * * Nevertheless, ‘[i]n determining questions of maintenance, the authority of this Court is as broad as that of the trial cotut’ ” (Boughton v Boughton, 239 AD2d 935).
