During his lifetime, J. W. Cuykendall lived in the city of Atlantic, Iowa. His residence was situated toward the outskirts of the city and was surrounded by a considerable tract of land. Approximately 160' feet southwest of the residence there was a two-story garage, on the ground floor of which automobiles were stored, and in the second story of which living quarters were located.
