The statement made by the accused was admissible as a declaration against his interest. “Declarations of a party against his interest are always admissible in evidence.” Ives v. Bartholomew, 9 Conn. * 309, * 312. They are not admitted as testimony of the declarant in respect to any facts in issue; for that purpose they are open to the objections to hearsay evidence.
