During the events of this case, all of which transpired in the city of Portland, Oregon, defendants were dealers in slot machines each operating his business for himself and not associated therein with the other. One Clyde S. Betts was conducting a private detective agency. One Ben Wilson apprised Betts that two slot machines had been stolen from an establishment described as a bootleg joint.
