In a bifurcated trial conducted under the procedure established in Head v. State, 253 Ga. 429, 431-432 (3) (a) (322 SE2d 228) (1984), James Arthur Bowens was found guilty by a jury of armed robbery and aggravated assault, then tried and likewise found guilty by the jury of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bowens was convicted on all three counts, but his conviction on the aggravated assault verdict was later vacated since the armed robbery and aggravated assault counts merged as a matter of fact.
