We granted certiorari to review the Colorado Court of Appeals’ decision in McMichael v. Aetna Insurance Co., 878 P.2d 61 (Colo.App.1994), which reversed the trial court’s grant of summary judgment for the defendant, Aetna Casualty & Surety Company (Aetna),1 and against the plaintiff, Phillip *94McMichael, in a declaratory judgment action brought to establish the scope of coverage under an automobile insurance policy.
