The People v. Carter

Wilbur Carter was convicted in the criminal court of Cook county of murder and sentenced to death, and on his motion a writ of error has been granted.

The murder was committed April 20, 1926. The victim of the crime, the plaintiff in error, and all who were present at its commission, were negroes. About nine o’clock in the evening a noisy, drunken crowd entered the Douglas Hotel, a family hotel, consisting of the second, third and fourth floors of the building at 3502 Vincennes avenue, Chicago.
