Defendants Rafidain Bank and Central Bank of Iraq (respectively, Rafidain and CBI; collectively the Iraqi Banks or appellants) appeal from a judgment dated May 5, 1993 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Leonard B. Sand, J., granting the motion of plaintiff-appellee Commercial Bank of Kuwait (Commercial) for a default judgment. Commercial seeks recovery on certain “garden-variety” commercial obligations owed to it by the Iraqi Banks.
